Summary

Canadian International School of Hong Kong (CDNIS) enrolls more than 2,100 students from Nursery to Grade 12, representing more than 40 nationalities.

From Nursery to Grade 5*, students engage in a bilingual English-Mandarin programme. This early exposure fosters multilingualism and cultural awareness, and prepares students for the Upper School.

In Grades 9-12, students pursue both the Ontario Secondary School Diploma and the IB Diploma, both designed to equip them for university applications worldwide. CDNIS offers one of Hong Kong’s largest IB course selections, including film, design, computer science and environmental systems.

*The Lower School provides a bilingual curriculum for students from Nursery to Grade 2, and each academic year the programme will expand to include an additional grade until reaching Grade 5 by the 2028-29 academic year.

Message from the Principal
Dr. Tim Kaiser

Canadian International School of Hong Kong (CDNIS) takes a comprehensive, forward-thinking approach to give students an all-round education built on inquiry-based learning and involvement in a wide range of extracurricular activities. Academic excellence is a priority, but this is balanced by a focus on personal growth through the steady development of global awareness, bilingual proficiency, future-ready skills, and a multicultural outlook. In terms of curriculum, the school offers a unique blend of International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes, from primary years up to diploma level, along with the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). This combination ensures students are working towards globally recognised qualifications and, in the process, learning to pose and explore meaningful questions, while also discovering how to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts and across different disciplines.

By encouraging inquiry and student agency, CDNIS aims to foster independent thinking, self-confidence and principled action. Importantly, the school also has 10 guidance counsellors to support social and emotional well-being, and a similarly dedicated team assists senior students with advice on post-secondary plans and career options.

In response to changing needs, CDNIS now offers a fully bilingual English-Mandarin programme from Nursery to Grade 2. This will gradually expand by one grade level each year within the Lower School, while the Upper School will continue to offer Chinese as a second language with classes for beginners to native speakers.

Regarding technology and innovation, students have access to drones, 3D printers, virtual reality headsets, and coding robots. Use of these tools promotes digital literacy, problem solving and creativity. As one of the first Apple Distinguished Schools in Asia, CDNIS will continue to integrate technology into learning, while adding to the choice of sports, student-led clubs and extracurricular activities, which contribute to developing well-rounded, resilient individuals.
